Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed he understands James McAtee desire to play more and wants him to stay at the club next season.

McAtee is a product of City’s youth system and made his first-team debut in the 2021/22 season before being loaned out to Sheffield United for the last two seasons.

McAtee has attracted interest from a number of clubs who are keen to secure him as a regular first-team regular. But Pep is hopeful the player will remain at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep said of the attacking midfielder, who is contracted to the club until the summer of 2026: “At his age, I would like McAtee to stay with us next season.”
“I understand the player wants to play more. I want him to stay. He’s an academy player who knows the system, is a nice guy. Trains very well and can play in many positions.”
“So I would like him to stay because I think he’s a player from the academy. He knows the patterns. He’s a lovely person. Lovely guy. He trains really good. Can play in different positions. I like him.
“But I don’t know what will happen with the squad and we will see.”
