Konrad Laimer is confident Austria will beat Turkey to reach the last eight of Euro 2024 as planned. Austria midfielder Konrad Laimer is confident his team can play their way against Turkey on Tuesday. And secure their first ever place in the last eight of the Football Euros.
‘We always know how good we can be when we’re on our game. We’ve shown that many times in the last year or two, even against the bigger teams. We can bring our highest level of play. Whether we’re a dark horse or not. It doesn’t matter to anyone, (even) ourselves. We just want to keep playing our game, keep going and go as far as we can.’UFABET
Laimer also spoke about returning to Leipzig, saying:
‘It feels great to be back where I played for six years. I feel like I know the stadium. I played a lot of games there in the past. We beat Tottenham in the last 16 of the Champions League. Xavi (Sabitzer) scored two goals. It was the last game before (Covid).’
‘So it’s in my memory. It’s also special when we played against Union Berlin when we reached the DFB-Pokal final.’
The 27-year-old midfielder also spoke about Austria’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals for the first time, saying: ‘We know that every player has to show great performances and great determination. But we know how good we are as a team and we can’t wait to get going. (The win would mean) it’s good for everyone.’
‘You see that the Euros are very special. We have been together for a long time, we have done a lot of work to prepare for this tournament and now you see how we play together and the fans are happier and everything.’
Laimer also spoke about the type of game to expect against Turkey, saying: ‘A very intense game, showing that we are in the last 16 of the Euros. There will be no gifts, you win or you go home and both teams will show that on the pitch.’
‘Everyone wants to win this game, that’s why we’re all here. We want to enforce our style of play and stick to our game. If we do that, I’m 100 percent sure we’re going to win.’
